Welcome to Red Pollard and Jockey tales.
A history project by Kira Eckert.
My assignment is to pick my hero from the 20th century and I've picked John "Red" Pollard. A young race rider, or jockey, from the 1930's who's most famous for being the jockey who led the great horse Seabiscuit to victory many times in his career, including the Santa Anita Handicap in 1940.
So why'd I pick him? Pollard seemingly went through it all yet he persisted. He suffered near life threatening injuries, partial blindness, starvation, and poverty Most of the things that define a jockey and what the job is all about. Important links.I hope you enjoy your stay!!
